Actor and Comedian, Will Ferrell, played one half-inning for the Angels (CF) and then switched dugouts to test his skills as the Cubs’ 3B coach and first baseman during Thursday’s game! Ferrell replaced Trout in the outfield at the top of the third inning. Looks of uncertainty soon turned into a standing ovation as the Actor collected a base hit, crow-hopped with ease and fired the baseball back into the Angels’ infield, holding Cubs catcher Welington Castillo to a single. He was then traded to the Cubs for a washing machine.

Will’s appearance at Tempe Diablo Stadium was the second stop on his mission to play at five spring training ballparks in Arizona, home to the Cactus League, for a new HBO special from Funny Or Die, in partnership with Major League Baseball. Ferrell used this opportunity to raise money for cancer research and honor the historic accomplishment of Bert Campaneris by playing every position on the field, (and a few off the field), for ten different MLB teams in the same day.
